The Directors for The Alan Nuttall Partnership today confirmed that following the conclusion of a formal consultation process with Partners (employees), the Nuttall business based in Dudley, West Midlands will permanently close.
The decision follows careful consideration of the feedback received during a comprehensive consultation period and the review of the business’s financial position, operational cost base and future opportunities. Regrettably, no viable alternative was identified that would enable Nuttall to continue trading on a sustainable basis.
The business is expected to cease trading by the end of 2026, and Nuttall will continue to operate until that date to support any outstanding customer orders, fulfil existing commitments and manage the closure responsibly. Affected Partners have been informed, and they will continue to receive the full support of the Board throughout the process.
Richard Hall, CEO, said: “This is an extremely difficult decision and one that has not been arrived at easily. Throughout consultation, we listened carefully to our Partners, explored the alternatives put forward in great detail and considered how the impact of the initial proposal could be reduced. Unfortunately, after reviewing all available options, we have concluded that closure is the most responsible course of action. We recognise the significant impact this will have on our valued Partners and their families, and our priority remains to support them with care and respect. We are deeply grateful for their dedication and commitment. We will continue to work closely with our customers and suppliers while we begin the formal close-down of operations.”
For many years, Nuttall has been a respected name within the UK retail shopfitting industry. The Board recognises the dedication and contribution of past and present Partners who have helped shape the business throughout its history.
In 2018, a change in leadership and a significant transformation programme helped Nuttall navigate considerable challenges within the sector that they operate in. Whilst these measures enabled the business to continue trading until now, a shrinking retail shopfitting market, together with significant energy and employment cost pressures has unfortunately left no viable path for the business to continue sustainably.
The decision to close the Nuttall business does not affect the ongoing operations of The Alan Nuttall Partnership or Flexeserve, based in Hinckley, Leicestershire. Flexeserve operates independently and in entirely separate market sectors from Nuttall and remains a strong and growing business, continuing to invest in new products, international expansion and customer partnerships to deliver its long-term growth strategy.
